This tour offers you a chance to visit 2 countries in one day and learn about their distinct cultures, geography and customs.

THIS TOUR IS 100% different than our Mostar and Herzegovina discovery tour – different sights, and different cultures so guests can easily book this tour and the Mostar tour and have two unique experiences.

The tour starts from Dubrovnik and after only 15 min drive we arrive at Bosnian border where we cross and drive through the Serbian part of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republika Srpska). The first stop is the town of Trebinje, where we will first visit Gracanica Hill which has panoramic views of the whole Trebisnjica river valley and the Orthodox monastery of Hercegovacka Gracanica.

Upon descending down into the town of Trebinje we will pass through the old Turkish and 19.ct Austrian center of the town and give our guests short free time to browse through Trebinje’s everyday farmers’ market.

After Trebinje we continue to the Bosnia-Montenegro border and cross into Montenegro at Grab crossing following the trail down Orjen mountain massive to sea-level and the Bay of Kotor.

The tour continues through the Bay of Kotor passing villages Bijela, Kamenari, Morinj, Risan, with photo stop at the medieval city of Perast (possible to visit the enchanting island of Our Lady of the Rocks- please advise us beforehand).. Upon arrival to Kotor, once an independent city-state, and from 14.ct under Venetian influence, you would have time to explore its narrow streets, sunny squares and churches followed by time for lunch (optional).

After lunch, the tour will continue through Vrmac tunnel and passing the town of Tivat (luxury yacht marina resort of Porto Montenegro) we will take a short scenic ferry ride across Kotor Bay (about 10-15 min) continuing to the Montenegro-Croatian border and back to Dubrovnik (our driver will take the best direction to Dubrovnik, depending on border crossings waiting time).

The success of any private tour rests on the shoulders of the guide and driver. Miho was everything you could hope for. Patient, funny, full of stories, helpful recommendations, and even a few secret family recipes. At first half day tour to Ston for oysters and wine tasting was so good, we immediately signed up for a full day exploring Bosnia in Montenegro. Being dropped off at the airport

Day Trip From Dubrovnik to Montenegro and Bosnia

October 19, 2024
We very quickly discovered that this entire day was going to be a "make or break" simply based upon our accompanying guide, driver, and now dear friend. Ivan very simply was the experience and made the entire trip one of the most memorable of our time in Croatia, Montenegro, and

Bosnia. To begin the day, even evening before, the communication and arrangements were solid. Ivan quickly demonstrated flexibility and was willing to address his schedule to ours, and we desired to start early, very early. Ivan was immediately gracious and welcoming upon pick up at our hotel, and just as quickly put us at ease with meaningful conversation, thoughts, and suggestions. We had read up on the tour "path", but Ivan suggested his thoughts on alternatives that he felt from his experience would be more beneficial for our enjoyment and take advantage of the sites listed in the description. We placed our hands in his and said "let's go for it" and followed his direction. We could not have been more pleased. Out of the gate, Ivan suggested doing the tour in reverse order. Beginning with Montenegro in the morning. Take advantage of the morning lighter tourist traffic to "Our Lady of the Rocks". He was spot on and we thank him. Before entering into the Bay area of Kotor, Ivan stopped at this cliff side cafe. Our initial thought was quick pics and move along. We walked about briefly and Ivan encouraged us to enjoy a beverage and appetizer and relax in the view of the rising sun over the bay. OMG! We were so thankful for the encouragement and suggestion. We enjoyed a romantic glass of wine, beautiful views of the bay, Our Lady of the Rocks, and mountain side as the sun rose glistening across the bay. What a start and we were all smiles. We chatted and shared stories with Ivan all day and found him to be extremely knowledgeable across many more facets of life and way more than "just a tour guide for the day". Again, his sharing, knowledge and open approach were so refreshing and so welcomed, it was the dessert and the venues we saw the cherry on top. We hopped back in the car and just kept thanking him for the suggestion and pic opportunities. We made our way around the bay and to his friends that gave us a lift over to walk and visit "Our Lady of the Rocks". The beauty of the trip was we felt it was our schedule, our day, our leisure, and not stuck to a timed itinerary and we got in what we wanted in the manner we desired. After our leisure tour of the "The Lady", we returned and walked the area before rejoining Ivan. Needless to say, experiencing such venues are that much more memorable when you share them with someone special, as we walked hand in hand, we remarked to each other how fortune this day is taking shape with Ivan as our host. We came around the bay to Kotor where Ivan dropped us off, parked briefly and gave us a complete suggested walking tour for the city, specific churches, the wall, and how to return in a circle without doubling back. Needless to say we took his advice completely. Along our walk, found this cozy little jazz cafe, warm music, smaller courtyard setting, impeccable service, and had another local glass offering and just enjoyed the ambience and our own conversation. Now Ivan would have certainly joined us, but certain aspects of tour guides, locations, certifications, and such; limit when and where he may do so and the manner. He thoroughly prepped us and explained and time flew and we headed back to meet Ivan and continue on around the bay. Pulling over for another beautiful vista picture that he took for us. Needless to say these pics have now been popping up in our memories ever since on our phones and oh are they ever warm and loving memories, and we immediately think of Ivan for such a special day. We believe Ivan knows "everybody"! His friendly nature and demeanor shines and at all the border crossings across the trip, they were simply seamless and he shared smiles and laughs with all the agents. Even while in Bosnia, we came across an unexpected police inspection point, Ivan was cool, calm, and collected; and without incident we were on our way heading to Trebinje. Upon our arrival, we pulled into this quaint and warm little village pub completely rustic in its setting and the service was as friendly as one could imagine. The meal was HUGE and delicious! It was incredible and we were amazed at the quantity and value received for the price. We were stuffed for the final city tour and then later drive back to our hotel, for what had been a complete and fulfilling day and we deemed the experience worth every penny. Again, all the value we received we feel was because of Ivan. God Bless him, we are forever grateful for his time, and remain in contact via WhatsApp wishing him and his soon to be new bride our best. We thanked Ivan immensely before he departed, and consider him our good friend. This tour and his engagement was most definitely one of the highlights of our Trip. Jeff and Leetha

and pickups were confirmed the day before. After a deposit, they only accept cash, so plan accordingly. The drivers were both great and were very professional. The answered so many questions, and gave us a lot of insight into the local culture and history. would definitely recommend this company. Notes on the sarajevo/mostar trip: - this is a long day, be well rested and prepared, started at 5:30am and ended at 8:00pm. thankfully the border crossing was quick and followed by a bakery pit stop then a cafe pit stop with an amazing view. - sarajevo is awesome and definitely the star of the show!! the included walking tour was great (sampled some amazing baklava, and saw some traditional live craft-making). we then had about 1.5 hours to piddle around old town and eat. wish we had more time here, lots to see and explore. vendors seemed very nice and relaxed. lots of shops with a nice atmosphere. shops accept euros and visit return either bosnian marks or euros. some accepted credit card. - mostar gave us mixed feelings, it was nice to see and walk through for a few minutes but everything was over priced, vendors were all on edge, and it was over crowded. we saw a stolen purse on the side of the road, be on alert. the views from the bridge are fantastic. a local on the bridge as taking spectator money to see his associate jump off the bridge. we walked down to the river to get a nice view of the bridge. i think in total we spent 30 minutes and needed to escape the heat and the smoke and crowds. there is one bathroom you could use for 50 cents deeper into town. Notes on the bosnia > montenegro trip - Trebinje is a really nice town, with 2 amazing orthodox churches! the one in town looked a lot nicer than the one on the hill. - perast was lovely to walk through for 15 mins; there was a shop which let us use their bathroom after a purchase. we arranged our own boat ride to the lady of the rock church (we took a bigger boat which left every 10mins and cost 10euro round trip for 2; some locals in small boats were offering 5 per person for 1 way) the church itself was anything but spiritual: too crowded/hot/cigarette smoke. one way entry/exit and long slow lines to move. not worth entering at all. they ask for 2 euros to enter. the ride itself was worth it for the views. the island felt like a hellish tourist trap. - port of montenegro was very scenic and we walked along it for a while and had an amazing local lunch here with our driver. - bay of kotor is surreal and the star of the show, amazing vistas - kotor old town was nice and you can get a good idea of it in a couple hours (we were dropped off there for the night). the included walking tour was a little rushed because we hit some traffic driving into old town; but it was good none the less.

At points on the trip, he asked if we had any preferences on what we wanted to do so it didn’t feel like we were rushing through the everything. There was plenty of down time so you could wander around and enjoy the sites. Also, everything went really smoothly for us when crossing country borders. Josip warned that at certain times, there could be long delays, but I guess we lucked out on that day. I would highly recommend this experience and ask for Josip 😊

Ivo was our guide/driver and he was absolutley brilliant! He was entertaining and had great chit chat throughout and made us laugh a lot during the day but he also allowed us space to wander. We stopped frequently with the kids and had a lot of picture stops - enjoying the coffee and pastry and local market in Bosnia was a particularly lovely way to start the day. I was blown away by the scenery on this trip particularly in Perast and Kotor. Stunning scenery around the Bay of Kotor. The small towns were really pretty and we came away with some great memories. We were actually surprised at how stunning the scenery was! Its a long day and quite a bit of time is spent in the car but we had plenty of time to walk around, grab lunch and see the towns and take in the sights so it didnt feel as if we were in the car that much. The minibus (for 4 of us) was very clean and spacious and made the day a whole lot more comfortable - Ivo was a very safe driver. I would highly recommend this to take in both Bosnia and Montenegro!! Well worth it particularly if you get Ivo as your guide!! He will make you laugh!

Our guide Goran was really friendly and knowledgeable and really gave us a fantastic day exploring the Balkans. He gave us great tips during our excursions for restaurants and taught us the proper way to drink a Bosnian coffee. He also brought us to interesting sites such as a medieval Bosnian cemetery and a Farmer's Market in Croatia where we got to sample fresh candies and liquors. Dubrovnik Day tours was definitely the best option for me and my budget. I recommend them and I recommended them to the hotel that I stayed at.
