Join us on a tour through the second longest peninsula in Croatia – Peljesac, known for its top-quality red wines (Dingac, Postup). Enjoy an area where vineyards stretch through the steep slopes from the Adriatic Sea to the sky. See, smell, feel, taste, and get to know our wines and their history. Learn about Peljesac olives and what makes a good olive oil.
Marvel the medieval fortifications and elegance of Ston town and possibly end your day by picking some oysters from their oyster beds and tasting them on the spot!
Starting from Dubrovnik (port or your hotel) we drive northwest along the Adriatic coast passing the villages of Orasac, Trsteno (known for its beautiful Arboretum botanical garden), and Slano, with Elafiti islands following parallel to the coast.
After about 45 min drive we cross over to the peninsula of Peljesac, with Mali Ston Bay dividing it from the mainland as the peninsula keeps stretching westwards the open sea.
Soon we arrive at Ston, a medieval city famous for its great city walls – the second largest preserved fortification system in the world, its charming Gothic center, and its salt pans where salt was produced and harvested over centuries (salt was very expensive and in demand in those days). During the short orientational tour of Ston, you will learn about Ston’s history and see the major sites after which we continue towards the vineyards of Peljesac.
Passing from one valley to another, from the beaches of village Zuljana to the little fisherman village of Trstenik (scenic photo stops), finally reaching the most beautiful scenic parts of the steep cliffs of Dingac where wine grows on 40-60 degree incline. You will hear the story about the our Plavac Mali wine, its history, and what makes it so unique in the world. Passing through a man-made Dingac Tunnel (made in 1970) we will enter the village of Potomje where we will stop at 2 private wineries in this region followed by a presentation and tasting in each winery (red and white wine, liqueurs, olive oil, small bites)
Following wine tasting, we will drive back but this time on the other side of the Peljesac peninsula passing the villages of Janjina, Drace, and Dubrava, stopping at Ponikve village, another wine region on Peljesac peninsula where we would visit another boutique winery (3rd one) to taste, experience and compare their wines with those of previous region.
After Ponikve we will head back to Dubrovnik port/hotel, with possible toilette or photo-stops along the way. (ride back is around one hour).
